Options Window: Fonts and Colors

You use this panel to customize the font, background color, and foreground color
for text and elements in the Source Editor.
You can specify the font and color according to editor type.
You can also use this panel to specify the colors of changed text when comparing file revisions
You can access this panel by choosing Tools > Options from the main menu, and then clicking the Fonts & Colors category.
Editor Profile settings
You can create profiles to save different custom font and color settings.
You can switch between profiles to quickly change between saved custom Source Editor settings.
If you modify either of the profiles included in the IDE, you can click Restore to restore the selected profile to the default settings.
To create a profile:
- Click Fonts & Colors in the Options window.
- Click Duplicate next to the Profile drop-down list to open the Create New Profile dialog box.
- Type a name in the Create New Profile dialog box.
- Modify the settings in the Options window.
- Click OK to close the Options window.
- To import Source Editor settings from a previous version of the IDE, you need to first locate the XML files containing your old settings.
You can then copy the settings from one XML file to another.
Use the following tabs to customize the fonts and colors as they appear in the Source Editor:
- Syntax. This tab enables you to customize the appearance of text according to type and language.
You can specify the font, the font color and the background color.
- Highlighting. This tab enables you to customize the foreground and background colors for highlighted areas,
including code folding and how highlighted elements appear.
- Annotations. This tab enables you to customize the foreground and background colors
of source code lines associated with annotation glyphs. Annotation glyphs are shown in the left margin of the
Source Editor.
- Diff. This tab enables you to customize the colors for indicating changed text when comparing file revisions.
You can modify the appearance of text and elements in the Source Editor by setting the following properties in the tabs.
To modify a property, select an item in the Category or Highlighting pane and then modify the color or font in the right pane.
- Language (Syntax tab only). Select a language from the drop-down list.
When you select a language, the Categories pane displays the text categories in that language that you can customize.
Modifications apply only to the specified language.
- Categories. The Categories list contains the text and editor elements that can be modified in the tab.
- Font (Syntax tab only). The font used to display the selected text category. Click the ellipsis button (...) to open the Font Chooser to select a font.
- Foreground. The color of the text. Choose a color from the drop-down list or choose Custom to open the Select Color dialog box.
- Background. The color behind the text. Choose a color from the drop-down list or choose Custom to open the Select Color dialog box.
- Effects. Choose additional effects to apply to the text.
- Wave Underlined (Annotations tab only). Choose a color for the underline from the drop-down list or choose Custom to open the Select Color dialog box.
The Preview area displays how the selected changes will appear in the Source Editor.
